Beauty uses of Salt/ Beauty Benefits of Salt / Beauty Applications of Salt

Salt, being one of the most common flavoring ingredient food has its own pedestal in the beauty realm. It is readily available in several types and it is inexpensive.

A lot of beauty hacks include salt as one of the ingredients. Some call it the latest beauty miracle, even if it has been used for several centuries now. Although there are different types of salts, these generally have properties that are beneficial to the skin, hair, and teeth.

Cosmetic companies favor using sea salts as an additive in their mineral makeup and other skin care products. For spa use, we find Epsom salt as well as sea salts being popularly used. Here we are some of the beauty benefits that salt can bring.

Soothing Salt Water Bath

Adding sea salt to a warm bath can help soothe and relax tired muscles. It also helps remove toxins from the skin. As a natural therapy for skin disorders such as psoriasis and eczema, it is recommended to bathe and soak in sea water.  A soak in Epsom salt water raises the body’s sulfate levels which aids in detoxification.

Salt helps fight acne

Salt water also helps balance oily skin. It contains trace minerals, sulfur, and other elements that can fight bacteria. It also contains sulfur that not only kills pimple-causing germs, it also helps smoothen the skin. The simplest facial salt scrub is by simple moistening sea salt with equal part of water. Massage this mixture gently on your face. Let it stay for 15 minutes and rinse with warm water followed by cold water. Pat with towel to dry.

Salt and Oil Body Scrub

Exfoliate and moisturize your whole body with salt and oil mixture. Mix 2 cups of salt with 1 cup coconut and 15 drops of your favorite essential oil. Massage the mixture gently onto your skin in circular motions. You may use other oils such as almond oil, olive oil, jojoba oil, etc. if coconut oil is not available.

Eliminate Bad Breath by Using Salt Mouthwash

No mouth bacteria can survive the power of salt. A salt mouthwash is an effective way to cleanse your gums and eliminate bad breath. Simply dissolve a tablespoon of salt in a glass of warm water and swoosh it inside your mouth just like how you do it with a regular mouthwash.

Create Beach Wave Curls for Your Hair Using Salt

If you can’t go to the beach to get that sea-textured wavy look on your hair, you can just D.I.Y it at home using salt water. In a spray bottle, mix together 1 tablespoon each of sea salt, leave on conditioner, and virgin coconut oil with 1 cup of warm water. Shake the bottle well until all the salt has dissolved and everything is mixed well. Now you have a substitute for commercially made sea salt spray brands.
For a start, these are just a few. I’m sure you will discover other beauty functions for the salt.
