Beauty maintenance does not have to leave you broke. In the beauty industry, olive oil is being hailed as a “special” ingredient that does wonders. While in truth, this wonderful oil has been in use both for culinary and beautifying functions since the ancient times. Olive oil contains monounsaturated fats, antioxidants, vitamins E and K, chlorophyll, and carotenoids.

Enthusiasts of organic beauty products have olive oil as part of their skin and hair care staples. Let’s take a look at some of the ways we can use olive oil for beauty purposes.

Olive Oil for Skin Care

·      Treatment for cracked heel – After exfoliating and fully washing your feet, apply a generous amount of olive oil on your whole feet and massage it, particularly the heel and affected areas. Wrap each foot with cling wrap. Wear socks. This is best done before bedtime. Upon waking you will notice a big difference in the smoothness and softness of your sole and heel area. Repeat each night until cracks disappear.

·       Skin moisturizer – While skin is still damp after shower, massage just a small amount of olive oil on your skin until it is fully absorbed.

·       Eye moisturizer – Moisturize the skin around your eyes with olive oil. This works better than commercial eye creams.

·       Makeup remover – Since most cosmetics are oil-based, the makeup easily comes off with olive oil. A few drops of olive oil on a clean facial tissue will do the job.

·       Body scrub – Use olive oil as a base ingredient for your body scrub. Mix ½ cup of olive oil with sugar and a few drops of an essential oil of your choice. You can also use ground coffee, or salt if you wish.

·       Lip moisturizing scrub – mix a few drops of olive oil with sugar. Rub the mixture gently on your lips to exfoliate dead skin.
Olive Oil for Healthier Hair

·       Deep conditioning treatment for thick hair and chemically processed hair – Olive oil penetrates the hair shaft and coats the outer layer of the hair strand making it smoother, moisturized, and healthier. Due to its heavy nature, it is best for thicker hair. The deep moisturizing qualities of olive oil are also great for permed and chemically treated hair.To deep condition your hair, simply massage olive oil into your hair until every strand is completely covered. Put on a shower cap to cover all your hair and let it stay for 15-20 minutes. Shampoo and rinse.

·       Head lice removal – Apply olive oil generously into the hair and scalp. Cover head with shower cap and leave it overnight. This will suffocate the lice and nits.

·       For shaving – Olive oil is great as an alternative for shaving cream and it  also works as an after shave lotion. You get 2-in-1 function for a single application.

By now, you may be thinking of trying any of these natural beauty treatments using olive oil. Well, this list is just a start. There are dozens of other beauty formulas with this wonderful oil as a base. Enjoy your natural beauty glow!
